Mike Macdonald Named Head Coach Of The Seattle Seahawks

Mike Macdonald has been hired by the Seahawks to be their ninth head coach.

As the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens for the past two seasons, Macdonald built one of the best defenses in the NFL. At 36 years old, he is the NFL’s youngest head coach.

Macdonald and his wife, Stephanie, were met by team members when they got to the Virginia Mason Athletic Centre. “What an honor,” he said. “We’re really thrilled to be here. Just getting to know John and the other people here—that’s what drew us here, not the place itself. That’s why we’re here: to bring the 12s and Seattle a cup again.

I think it will be a great ride. We will have a great time and work hard. We’ll be here for a long time and win a lot of sports games.

Pete Carroll has been the head coach for the Seahawks for 14 seasons. Macdonald will take over the job from Carroll and will be responsible for helping the team move forward while also keeping a positive attitude within the team, as general manager John Schneider explained earlier this month.

Schneider said, “We want to keep our good culture.” “This building is where everything that was made here lies.” This building is full of interesting people. Having the chance to talk on the phone with all of these agents and people who are interested in the job and being able to tell them, “Hey. There is a basis here, and it’s fantastic.

Linebacker Patrick Queen of the Ravens told reporters on Monday, “I think he’s the best (head coach) candidate out there right now.” “He does it better than anyone else, in my opinion.” He cares more than anyone else. He does things that no one else will do. He won’t stop working until everything is okay. The person who gets him will be the best option out there if he quits. The guy is the best teacher and person I’ve ever been around. He really cares about the players, the fans, and the people who work for the team.

Macdonald began coaching at Cedar Shoals High School in Georgia while he was still a student at the University of Georgia. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a famous defense innovator. That got him promoted at Georgia, and then he went to work as an intern coach for the Ravens in the NFL. Following that, Macdonald worked his way up to become the defensive backs coach and then the linebackers coach. In 2021, he became the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan.

Macdonald came back to the Ravens as their defensive coordinator in 2022 after one season at Michigan. He was immediately successful, as the Ravens were ranked third in scoring defense (18.5 points per game), third in run defense (92.1 yards per game), third in red zone defense (46.4 percent), and fourth in third-down defense (34.9). The defense was even better in 2023, with four All-Pros (Queen, linebacker Roquan Smith, safety Kyle Hamilton, and defensive tackle Justin Madubuike). This helped the Ravens win the AFC’s top seed with a 13-4 record.

The Ravens’ Kyle Van Noy told reporters on Monday, “Mike is going to do a great job.” “He’ll be really, really good if he gets a job as a head coach.” He is a solid coach who is good at Xs and Os, speaking with the team and getting them to work together to reach the main goal. Plus, he loves football. I think it’s great that people are interested in him as a head coach at such a young age…I think he can do great things.
